Tri-County YMCA Coronavirus Statement

In recent news, many are reporting on the widespread of the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as it has been raising concerns among the global population. With around 15 cases confirmed in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Indiana State Department of Health have been providing more information on how to best prevent and control infections for people and businesses.

The Tri-County YMCA is taking the prevention of spreading coronavirus, or like illnesses, seriously. We have a system in place, including hygiene and housekeeping practices, which dictates our prevention strategies and our response should this issue grow in our community. These strategies are enacted on top of our current policies and activities that occur on a daily basis that place us in a position to keep our community safe.

Taking into consideration the precautions that have been provided, the Tri-County YMCA is recommending guidelines for YMCA staff and program participants:

1. Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

2. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve, not your hands, when coughing or sneezing.

3. YMCA staff and program participants are asked to stay home when ill, and remain home for 24-hours after your symptoms have disappeared. More signs will appear to remind and encourage YMCA staff and program participants to follow this guideline.

5. Clean all frequently touched surfaces and machines at the YMCA at least twice daily, such as the front desk and exercise and program equipment.

6. Work with local facilities to follow their guidelines at YMCA activities located off-site.
