Code of Conduct for Members/Guests

Staff members are expected to actively support and enforce the Code of Conduct for members and guests. The YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all members and guests. To promote safety and comfort for all, the YMCA asks individuals to act appropriately at all times when they are in YMCA facilities or participating in YMCA programs.

At the Y, we expect staff, members and guest to behave in accordance with our mission and values at all times, respecting the rights and dignity of others. We demonstrate Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith by:

  • Dressing appropriately, speaking in respectful tones and refraining from vulgar and derogatory language.
  • Respecting the property of others; never engaging in theft or destruction.
  • Respecting the YMCA and its facilities by following all age guidelines, returning equipment to its proper place and limiting activities to an amount of time as deemed appropriate by staff.
  • Resolving conflicts in a respectful, honest and caring manner; never resorting to physical contact or threatening gestures
  • Respecting others by refraining from intimate behavior in public; abstaining from contact of a sexual nature
  • Creating a safe, caring environment; no firearms or weapons are allowed on the premises with the exception of sworn law enforcement officers with proper identification.
  • Participating in programs to build a healthy spirit, mind and body; never engaging in the use, sale, dispensing or passing of illegal drugs or narcotics, or the unsanctioned use of alcohol on YMCA premises; never using tobacco on or around YMCA premises
  • The YMCA conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. If a sex offender match occurs, the YMCA reserves the right to cancel membership, end program participation, and remove visitation access.

Adherence to the YMCA Code of Conduct is essential. Noncompliance may result in suspension or termination of YMCA membership privileges.

Members and guests are encouraged to be responsible for their personal comfort and safety and ask any person whose behavior threatens their comfort to refrain. If a member or guest feels uncomfortable in confronting the person directly, they should report the behavior to a staff person. Members and guests should not hesitate to notify a staff person if assistance is needed. In order to be able to carry out these policies, the YMCA asks that members and guests identify themselves to staff when asked. The CEO or program director will investigate all reported incidents.

Suspension or termination of YMCA membership privileges may result from a determination by the CEO if, in his or her discretion, a violation of this Code of Conduct has occurred.

The Y is committed to providing programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. No one will be denied access to YMCA programs or facilities due to an inability to pay.  Funds made available for financial assistance are provided through the generous giving of individuals and businesses to the YMCA's Annual Campaign.  IRS Form 990 Available For Inspection Upon Request.
