CYCLONES SWIM TEAM

 Mission Statement

The Tri-County YMCA Swim Team and Master program will provide an environment within a competitive swimming setting that puts Christian principles into practice while enhancing personal growth, increasing self-esteem, promoting a sense of team pride and belonging and gives an opportunity for improving physical and mental health for all who participate.

Vision

Shape and strengthen the character of each swimmer by:

  • Building a program of Excellence based around Christian values
  • Creating a program designed around the idea of teaching our youth to develop a growth mindset. Finding motivation through hard work, growth, caring for each other, perseverance and overcoming adversity.
  • Challenge our Master’s program swimmers to push themselves to be there best
  • Challenging swimmers every day- in practices and at home-to be the best possible person
  • Developing swimmers’ skills and confidence by improving stroke mechanics and creating an environment of positive reinforcement
  • Maintaining a “team first” atmosphere by promoting pride in self and team: WE not ME!
  • Cultivating their passion for competitive swimming
  • Emerging life-long healthy habits in and out of the pool
  • Maintaining a welcoming place for swimmers of all skill sets with a competitive edge with USA swimming and a more laid back said with the Y league meets.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CYCLONE SWIMMING FAQ:

All newcomers will take a swim test to determine if they would be a good fit for the team or if Cyclone swim lessons need to be completed prior to joining the team.

To join the team, each swimmer must exhibit a willingness to work with the coaches and be able to follow instruction. They need to feel comfortable in the pool including putting face in water, blowing bubbles, and can keep head above water without assistance. A swimmer must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted and safely (this can be done by using lane ropes, if necessary).

Practices during the school year will take place after school at Heritage Hills High School. In the case that High School season is in season the Cyclones will practice after the Heritage Hills High School team.

Practices during the summer will be in the mornings and rotate between Huntingburg Outdoor Pool and Heritage Hills High School.

We will send out a schedule and post a schedule on our website that shows when and where practices will be taking place. If we ever have to change the location or time of a practice a notification will be sent out on the Remind App and an email will be sent out.

All of our parents need to sign up and join our Remind App classroom. This is a messaging app that the Cyclones will use so that the Head Coach and Team Director can communicate important information as a text message instead of needing to email everyone. To join our classroom you will go to www.Remind.com then you will create an account if you do not already have one. Once your account is created you will click “join class”, you will then have to enter a class code. The class code that you will enter is @ e7ga2dc . The coach and the team director will be notified once you have requested to join the class.

Each swimmer/parent will be charged on the 1st of each month for the upcoming month expect for the first month they sign up for the team, those swimmers will be charged on the day of sign ups. Swimmers can join and leave the team at any time of the year. We ask that parents inform us of the swimmers last day before the first of the month that will be their last month so we can change the monthly fee instead of refunding a portion of the fee. If the club is aware of a swimmer stopping ahead of time there shouldn’t be a need for a refund. We understand things come up in the middle of the season and we will handle those situations with refunds for time that will be missed.

It is the coaches’ judgment as to whether practices will be postponed or canceled due to inclement weather. Parents should also use their own judgment when sending their children to practice. In the event of a cancellation, the Coach will remain at the pool until all children are picked up.

Whenever possible, schedule changes will be posted on the Remind App and an email will be sent.

Lightning Policy Swimmers remain out of and away from the pool for 15 minutes following thunder or last sighted lightning.

Behavioral problems are not anticipated, but will be dealt with in the following manner:

-  First Offense: Verbal warning

-  Second Offense: Time out

-  Third Offense: Phone call to parent

-  Fourth Offense: Suspension from practice

-  Final Warning: Dismissal from team (no refunds will be issued for behavioral dismissal)

Team suits are recommended for swim meets, if a swimmer does not have a team suit they need to wear an all-black swim suit. Goggles are required and swim caps are highly recommended during practice and swim meets. At swim meets swimmers wearing a swim cap must wear a Cyclone team swim cap. Swimsuits need to have appropriate coverage and should stay in place when jumping into the water. Bikinis are prohibited. We recommend jammers or speedos for the boy’s team.

Swimmers must leave their phones out of the locker room before, during, and after practice. This policy is to eliminate any chance of swimmers taking pictures of other swimmers in the locker room.
